Post Processing
I have chosen this title when I could have used Photoshop Editing, since it is the de-facto software for such purposes. But I recognize that there are several other software programs on the market.
One of the things that I stress to my students is to try to do the very best at the time that they are capturing the image. I warn them not to be careless, knowing that they can always “fall – back” on Photoshop to correct the mistakes that should not have been recorded in the first place.
If you list the attributes that make an image “memorable” there is a limit to what Photoshop can do to make it so. Granted, many of my images that I display in the photo gallery and elsewhere have gone through “some” post processing, but they would fall under the “tweaking”category.
There are some situations that have a journalistic value, in which time is of the essence and require photographing quickly, although the conditions may not be ideal: Photoshop to the rescue.
How to use the different tools that Photoshop Elements and the Photoshop CS series offer is something that I teach. Here are some examples below. They show the Before and After effects of properly edited images with Adobe's Photoshop CS3. (NOTE: The second is not my image.)

I will be teaching a 9 hour course titled Digital Photo Lab at the Northeast campus of Midlands Technical College. It will be MTW evenings from 6 PM - 9 PM on August 25, 26 and 27, 2008. You can register by calling 803-732-0432 0r on line at www.mtctraining.com. The cost is only $99.
You can also register at the same number for my course: Using Your Digital Camera Creatively starting on September 22; schedule is as appears above.
Every once in a while, I like to enter photographic contests. I entered the image that appears below and the results are printed under the image.
I took this photo using my Canon EOS 20D and set it at 5 frames per second. Then, using Photoshop CS2, I placed the various images of the jumper in just one, with the results that appear below. I titled it "Half Time Entertainment" and it is being published in the International Library of Photography.
